Basic Info
Name:The Dancing Astrophysicist
Birthdate:1978-05-19
Location:Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Bio
From the frozen Northland I come (strong Viking stock) and am now a post-doc in the Southland.

Amongst the domiciles of my un-sordid past are a farm in northern Minnesota, in the city in Palm Springs, CA, in the city/town of Sioux Falls, SD, in the sprawling metropoli of Minneapolis and Atlanta, and the city of Nashville.

Dancing is my main hobby these days :) I love swing dancing (especially to rockabilly music) and also like ballroom, salsa and contra. Techno also can be totally fun - I'm really just a novice in that realm but I can shake my booty with the best of 'em!
Dances MissDancinAstrophys can do: East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jive, Stroll, Bop, Foxtrot, Waltz (regular and Viennese), Polka, Two-Step, Hustle, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, American Tango, a little Argentinian Tango, Mambo, Salsa, Merengue, some Bachata, Contra, Square, a little Zydeco and I'm sure if I have a good lead, I can follow most others :)

In the recent past whilst in Georgia, I participated in belly dancing (with 2 different teachers), tai chi, Yin yoga and step aerobics (it used to be salsaerobics too but she left). I also did some belly dancing at an amateur night or two around town ;) I have to find such things in my new city.

One must have a reason to be a graduate student and my subject of choice is astrophysics :) I've studied galaxies with radio waves, many rapidly rotating stars with visible light and a peculiar binary star system with visible and a bit of ultraviolet and infrared. Now I'm a full-fledged Ph.D.!!!! :)

Places I've been for astronomy-related meetings: Washington, D.C., Socorro, NM, St. Paul, MN, Pasadena, CA, Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, Savannah, GA, Minneapolis, MN, Calgary, AB, Canada, Monrovia, CA, Seattle, WA, and Austin, TX.
I've observed at: Hard Labor Creek Observatory, GA, Mt. Wilson, CA (home of the 100-inch!!) near Los Angeles, Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, AZ and the InfraRed Telescope Facility (IRTF) on Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawai'i!!

My favorite books right now:
- The Harry Potter series (they can always make me smile and/or distract me)
- "Cheaper by the Dozen" by Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey (about the 12 children of an efficency expert - love them!!!)
- "Chuck Amuck" by Chuck Jones (of Warner Brothers Cartoons fame!)
One can often find fantasy novels on my bookshelf. And many classics. And books of humorous leanings. And of course science books (but one can't read about science-y stuff ALL the time :) ).
